First Trimester Procedural Abortion

Eve Surgical Center offers the procedural abortion (surgical) in our Los Angeles abortion clinic during the first and second trimesters. Dr. Seletz is an expert in abortion care in Southern California, with four decades of experience. A surgical abortion in Beverly Hills is available as early as 5 weeks after the first day of your last period. The process is generally very smooth. You will have a consultation with Dr. Seletz prior to your consultation, and she will answer your questions. After, an ultrasound, lab tests, and an IV will be started; you will receive antibiotics through the IV. You also can receive sedation through the IV if you choose. Our patients usually opt for this and local anesthesia to ensure their comfort during and after the surgical abortion.
You will need to plan to have someone either join you in our clinic, or at least be available to pick you up after your procedure. Your guest will be able to be with you during the consultation and in the recovery room if you wish. You will be at our abortion clinic in Beverly Hills for about 2 hours in total, but the actual procedure only takes 10 minutes. You will rest in a private recovery room for about an hour after the procedure, and Dr. Seletz will personally check on you before you leave.
We will prescribe and dispense pain medication to you on-site, so there’ll be no need to stop at the pharmacy after your surgical abortion. You may resume work, school, and exercise the following day and resume sex in one week. You can call Dr. Seletz directly on her cell phone if you have any questions or concerns. We do not employ an answering service, nor do we have other providers to take calls from our patients.
Two hours before your appointment, we recommend eating a light meal. You can continue to drink clear fluids until you arrive. We highly recommend you wear comfortable, loose clothing and underwear that can hold a maxi pad– no thongs. Have some ibuprofen and some overnight maxi pads at home.
Our rates of immediate complications, such as infection, retained tissue, bleeding, and injury are extremely low. We also pay attention to long-term complications that may affect future pregnancy. We will text you a reminder to come back for an ultrasound 6 weeks after the abortion to make sure there is no scar tissue in the uterus.
