Eve Surgical Center (ESC) has been the most trusted name in abortion care in the western United States for more than 40 years. During the 1980’s and 1990’s, the only two physicians in Los Angeles who performed complicated late-term abortions were Dr. McMahon and Dr. Dotson. ESC was founded by Dr McMahon. When Dr. McMahon passed away, Dr. Dotson took over. When Dr. Dotson became disabled, Dr. Seletz took over. Patients have been referred to ESC from every university medical center in California, Oregon, Washington, Nevada, Arizona, and Utah, as well as from maternal-fetal-medicine specialists in private practice. Dr. Seletz provides procedural (surgical) abortions in both the first and second trimesters. If the fetus has already died or you are experiencing a miscarriage, she can manage that as well. A Guide To Abortion Options In Southern California
When you open these sites they will ask your age, location, and the first day of your last menstrual cycle. They will match you to the nearest abortion provider based on your zip code.
You will find the abortion providers in southern California fall into one of the following categories: mail order, large chain organizations, teaching hospitals, and independent providers.
1 Mail order: You can request pills for the medication abortion without being seen. They will come in the mail after you have a telephone visit. No in-person visit is needed
2 Planned Parenthood (PP) and Family Planning Associates (FPA) These are the large chain providers in California. They have multiple locations throughout the state, which offer medication abortions, first-trimester procedural abortions, and second-trimester procedural abortions in a few of their locations. You will be seen in person to have an ultrasound and lab work done. If your insurance is an HMO or Medi-Cal, you will most likely be referred to one of these. Some of them participate in the Ryan teaching program.
3. Teaching hospitals in Southern California are: UCLA, USC County Medical, Harbor General, Cedars-Sinai, and UC Irvine. They provide medical, first-trimester, and second-trimester surgical abortions. They all participate in the Ryan teaching program. 4. Independent providers are individually owned facilities, usually owned and operated by an Ob/Gyn physician. They provide medical and surgical procedures. You will be seen in person and have an ultrasound and lab work before a medical abortion.
Eve Surgical Center is one of the independent provider facilities and one of the few that provides the second-trimester surgical abortion, as well as the first-trimester surgical abortion, and the medication abortion. Dr Josepha Seletz is the owner and the provider. She is recognized by other physicians throughout California for her expertise. ESC is not a teaching facility and does not employ other physicians or mid-level practitioners. You can rest assured, Dr Seletz herself will do your consultation, ultrasound, and procedure, and she herself will answer your calls before and after the procedure.
